Yartzheit Quilting Circle

Sunday, August 24, 2014 28 Av 5774

1:00 PM - 5:00 PMHome of Diane Litke

Who: You, along with renowned fiber artist and Beth el Binah member Carrie Noess, will create a beautiful, enduring, and easily storable panel to honor those for whom you say Kaddish, the prayer for the deceased.

What: Carrie will be assisting the first group of about ten participants in the construction of their individual panels, which we will store in the same cabinets where we store our Torahs, and will display at Beth el Binah services and events. Panel cost: $54 donation.

Where: The first Yartzheit Quilting Circle will take place at the home of Beth el Binah Immediate Past President, Diane Litke.

When: Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Why: Beth el Binah, a Reform Jewish Congregation, began when a group of Gay and Lesbian Jews in Dallas, Texas, identified a need to provide a spiritual home for members of the LGBT community.  Today we serve a diverse population.  Our sanctuary is small and portable, and we need a way to honor the Yartzheit tradition that does not involve a fixed structure.  By combining elements of both our Jewish and LGBT heritage, the Yartzheit Panel and the AIDS Quilt, we believe we will accomplish this goal.
